A 31-year-old man remains in custody in Famagusta today after a targeted law enforcement search uncovered a suspected training grenade, illicit substances, and questionable goods.
Acting on judicial warrants, officers searched the suspect's residence, vehicle, and a shipping container on Tuesday. The operation turned up a small supply of cannabis alongside various electronic devices and power tools that investigators suspect may be stolen property. Officers also recovered a hand grenade, though initial assessments indicate the device was designed for training purposes rather than live detonation.
The suspect was initially taken into custody on the spot for caught-in-the-act offenses. Investigators later secured a formal warrant to extend his detention, allowing detectives more time to trace the origin of the seized items.
He is scheduled to face a judge at the Famagusta District Court today, where prosecutors will request a formal remand order to keep him jailed during the layout of the case. The regional Criminal Investigation Department is managing the probe into the explosives and property, while local anti-narcotics units handle the drug possession element of the case.
