Police lead investigation into LNG terminal project under EPPO oversight

Steady progress reported in Vasilikos LNG terminal investigation

The investigation on the project for the construction of an LNG terminal in Vasilikos was initiated in March 2024, the press office of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) confirmed to the Cyprus News Agency, noting that the investigation is progressing steadily, carried out by the Cyprus Police under the direction of the EPPO in Nicosia and Luxembourg.

“This investigation was initiated in March 2024 and has been progressing steadily, in line with the procedures prescribed by the EPPO Regulation and the national law”, the EPPO’s press office said in a written response to a CNA question on the matter.

“The Cyprus Police carries out the investigative measures, as are deemed necessary, under the direction of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Nicosia and the central office in Luxembourg” the press office added.

“This is an ongoing investigation, and there is nothing else that we can share at the moment, in order not to endanger the ongoing procedures and their outcome. Whenever we can say something else about this investigation, we will do so proactively” according to the statement.
