Cyprus Police will increase patrols and traffic controls during the August 15 holiday weekend, with additional measures planned from Friday, August 14, through Sunday, August 16.

The operation will place more officers on major roads and in busy public areas. Police said the measures are intended to reduce serious road offences, prevent crime and maintain public order during a period when large numbers of people are expected to be travelling and visiting popular destinations.

Traffic officers will be positioned at key points across the road network to assist with traffic management and conduct regular checks. Particular attention will be given to offences linked to serious and fatal collisions, including driving after consuming alcohol or drugs, speeding and dangerous overtaking.

Officers will also check for failures to wear seat belts or motorcycle helmets, mobile phone use while driving, and dangerous or careless driving.

Separate security patrols will operate in cities and rural areas, using both vehicles and foot patrols. These will focus in part on preventing property crimes such as burglaries and thefts.

Police will also increase their presence around commercial streets, busy public locations and holiday resorts, where visitor numbers are expected to be higher over the three-day period.

Members of the public can follow police updates through the force's social media accounts and the Cyprus Police News website.
