A police operation carried out earlier today in the Paphos district led to the arrest of 19 individuals who were staying illegally in the Republic of Cyprus, authorities said.

According to the Police, the action was conducted by the Aliens and Immigration Unit (AIU) in cooperation with other relevant government agencies. Twelve of those detained, nationals of non-EU countries, have already been returned to their countries of origin.

Procedures are still underway to arrange the repatriation of the remaining seven individuals, with officials noting that coordination with other competent services is continuing.

Police added that efforts to identify and remove people residing unlawfully in Cyprus are being carried out on a daily basis.
