Limassol police continued to make headway in a drug case over the weekend, with local law enforcement authorities giving public thanks following the arrest of a fifth suspect.
A 28-year-old local man was apprehended on Sunday in connection with a drug case, following the discovery of 72 kilos of cannabis in Limassol on May 28.
The drugs were discovered in a warehouse in Zakaki, Limassol district, after drug squad agents received a tip and placed two suspects under surveillance.
A female suspect was also detained after police discovered that her mobile phone number was listed as the recipient of the boxes
The two men, aged 31 and 36, had gone to the warehouse a day earlier where they picked up several boxes containing cannabis, which they loaded onto a truck.
Drug squad agents intercepted the truckload along the Nicosia-Limassol highway, after flagging down and searching the vehicle. The two men were arrested while another man, aged 27, was later detained as well.
A female suspect was also detained after police discovered that her mobile phone number was listed as the recipient of the boxes, which had been shipped from Greece according to local media.
The first four suspects were remanded in custody while details of the fifth suspect were quickly released, with sources saying all suspects were described as Greek Cypriots. After the fifth suspect was apprehended on Sunday, authorities gave public thanks saying several tips had made their way to police headquarters.
