Good morning and welcome to Thursday, March 20, 2025! If you thought spring meant sunshine and blooming flowers, well, Cyprus has other plans.
The cold is back, bringing with it rain, wind, and even snow in the Troodos Mountains. And let me tell you, as an Angeleno, I used to think only in Los Angeles would a few drizzles send drivers into full-on panic mode, causing accidents and blocking all lanes of the 405 Freeway. Turns out, Cypriots and Angelenos share this special talent for turning light rain into a traffic nightmare. Who knew?
Speaking of tricky road conditions, the police have announced that only vehicles with snow chains or all-wheel drive are allowed on roads leading to Troodos, where the snow depth currently stands at a very respectable 3-4 cm. So if you were planning a scenic mountain drive in your city car with summer tires, maybe reconsider.
Now, onto the actual forecast:
- Today: Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, and snow in the higher mountains. Winds will pick up throughout the day, reaching 4-5 Beaufort, making the sea rough—so maybe don’t take that spontaneous boat trip. Highs will reach 12°C inland, 15°C on the coast, and a frosty 1°C in the mountains (where frost will be feeling very much at home).
- Tonight: More clouds, possible light rain, and snow in the higher mountains. Temps will drop to 4°C inland, 6°C on the coast, and a chilly -4°C in the mountains, where frost will once again dominate the scene.
- Friday: Mostly clear with some clouds, particularly in the mountains, where there could be isolated showers.
- Weekend: Mostly sunny with occasional clouds, and—finally!—temperatures will start rising, bringing us back to normal seasonal levels.
So, bundle up, drive carefully, and if you find yourself stuck in traffic because of a drizzle-related accident, just know you're not alone—it's an international phenomenon. Stay warm, Cyprus!
Beautiful snowy Troodos this morning
