Residence-permit queues move online, but applicants need verified CY Login

Several renewal categories go digital-only from Jan. 1, affecting domestic workers, employees of foreign-interest companies and some families.

Residence-permit queues are moving online, but applicants will need a verified CY Login account before they can submit their paperwork.

From Jan. 1, 2027, Cyprus will stop accepting applications in person for several residence-permit renewal categories, making submission through gov.cy compulsory, the Migration Department announced Wednesday.

The service, launched in July, covers renewals with the same employer for paid employment, domestic employment, and employees of foreign-interest companies. It also includes long-term resident permits and family reunification for relatives of long-term residents and employees of foreign-interest companies.

The change concerns renewals covered by the service, rather than every residence-permit application. The government says it aims to improve service and speed up the process.

For workers and employers, submitting paperwork online could mean less time spent waiting at a counter. But anyone unfamiliar with digital services or struggling with the language may need help navigating the change.

The announcement does not explain what assistance will be available for people without digital access or how any required biometric appointments will be handled.

For those affected, the first practical step is to create and verify a CY Login account. Simply registering an account is not enough: verification is required to access the service. Instructions are available through gov.cy.
