Clear skies prevail with local storms in the mountains.

Newsroom

A seasonal low-pressure system continues to influence the region’s weather, bringing a mix of sunshine and local instability.

Today, expect mostly clear skies across the island, though occasional cloud build-up is likely. From midday onwards, isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially in the mountainous areas of the west and south Troodos range, and potentially inland. Some of these storms could bring hail.

Winds will start out light to moderate from the northeast to southeast at 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting by afternoon to southwesterly to northwesterly at similar strength. The sea will be slightly rough in the west and north, and calmer, though occasionally choppy, along the remaining coastlines.

Temperatures will peak at 36°C inland, 30°C along the coast, and around 28°C in the mountains.

Tonight, skies will stay mostly clear. By early morning, patches of light fog and low cloud may form in some areas. Winds will blow lightly from the northwest to northeast, reaching up to moderate levels locally (3 to 4 Beaufort). The sea will remain slightly rough in the west, and generally calm to slightly rough elsewhere.

Overnight temperatures will dip to around 21°C inland, 23°C near the coast, and 20°C in the mountains.

Looking ahead to Tuesday through Thursday, mostly clear conditions are expected to continue. Temperatures will gradually climb, reaching above-average levels for this time of year by midweek.
