Charges filed against police, former National Guard members, and forensic pathologist in Nicolaou case.

Newsroom

Private criminal prosecutions related to the death of Thanasis Nicolaou will be filed next week at the Limassol District Court.

The prosecutions involve seven individuals identified in a report prepared by two criminal investigators appointed by the Council of Ministers.

Among those named are police officers who were responsible for the investigation at the time of Nicolaou’s death, two former National Guard officers, and forensic pathologist Panikos Stavrianos, who conducted the autopsy. The report alleges that the two National Guard officers were aware of conditions at the camp where Nicolaou was serving but failed to take action.

The charges against all defendants include alleged neglect of official duty. Additionally, Stavrianos faces charges of issuing a false certificate, destroying evidence, providing false information to police, perjury, and interfering with judicial proceedings.

Stavrianos continues to maintain that Nicolaou’s death was not a murder and rejects the allegations against him.
