Six new coronavirus cases were announced on Wednesday, just hours before President Nicos Anastasiades is expected to address the nation regarding government plans to steadily lift lockdown measures.
The new cases emerged after the processing of 2,436 samples, and raised the Republic of Cyprus’ total coronavirus cases to 843.
The six cases involve five contacts of other known cases and one staff member of a General Hospital Microbiology Lab.
By Wednesday, 17,601 employees have been tested in the framework of the 20,000 on public and private sector workers still coming into public.
The Cabinet agreed to launch a second round of 20,000 more tests for employees of businesses that will resume operations during the first phase of the easing of restrictions.
The green light was also given for 10% of residents at the island’s two refugee camps to be tested for coronavirus.
