The first snowfall has transformed the Troodos Mountains into a stunning winter wonderland, setting the stage for the upcoming ski season. With snow now covering the peaks, it’s just a matter of time before the slopes are ready for skiing.
The change in the weather has brought the first wave of snow, and it seems to be here to stay. Images captured by meteorologist Eric Kitas, through his "kitasweather" page, showcase the breathtaking white landscape across the Troodos region, where snow is blanketing the mountains in the early light of day.
Snow has also been seen in other mountainous areas such as Askas and Prodromos, adding to the beauty of the island's highland terrain.
While the snowfall adds a magical touch to the scenery, local authorities are advising caution on the roads. Due to light snow and frost, roads like Karvouna-Troodos, Platron-Troodos, and Prodromos-Troodos are only open for vehicles with all-wheel drive or those equipped with anti-slip chains.
In the Morphou area, icy conditions have made some roads slippery, including:
- Kakopetrias – Pine wood – Pedoula
- Pedoula – Prodromos
- Prodromou – Lemythou
- Prodromou – Platron
As the snow continues to build up, winter sports enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the ski season, which is just around the corner. Skiers and snowboarders alike will soon be able to hit the slopes once the snowpack becomes thicker, making the Troodos Mountains a prime destination for winter fun.
