The Fire Service is on high alert due to the strong winds across the island. In a post on social media, Fire Brigade spokesperson Andreas Kettis said that the fire service had already responded to eight incidents so far. Most concern fallen trees in the areas of Strovolos, Engomi and Kaimakli (Nicosia Province). Of a more serious nature, a palm tree in Larnaca caught fire after it came into contact with electricity cables. There have been no injuries reported.
Fire trucks were also called to the scene of a fire on a reedbed between the villages of Tseri and Marki. The fire, which broke out at 1155 this morning, was immediately put under control. Firefighters remain on the scene due to the strong winds.
