A very strong air current from the north is affecting Cyprus on Wednesday, with weather officials issuing a wind advisory citing up to gale force winds expected in parts of the island.
Weather officials have issued a yellow warning for Wednesday, valid from morning 9am through afternoon 4pm, citing near gale to gale winds in all districts.
Northern areas, parts of Famagusta, and some windward areas in Larnaca and Limassol will be affected by powerful winds that could affect trees, sheds, and power lines
Many windward areas in the eastern half of the island are expected to be affected by strong or near gale northerly and northwesterly winds reaching up to 6 to 7 points on the Beaufort scale, while gale force winds at 8 Beaufort are also expected to affect local areas.
Northern areas but also parts of Famagusta as well as some windward areas in Larnaca and Limassol will be affected according to weather officials, who warned of powerful winds that could affect the environment including trees, sheds, and power lines.
Officials have warned the public and local officials to be aware of debris being blown by wind gusts, saying localized outdoor activity may be disrupted in some areas.
Temperature highs will reach 26 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast, while it will be 16 degrees high up in the mountains.
Strong winds are also expected in the evening, when temperature lows will drop to 10 degrees in the interior, around 13 in all coastal regions, while it will be 7 higher up.
Temperature is expected to drop further on Thursday.
