Good news for your holiday plans with skies that are looking bright

Hot start today, cooler breezes by Saturday, and plenty of sunshine for your long weekend plans.

Newsroom

Today will be mostly sunny and very hot, with just a few patches of medium clouds here and there to give the sun a short break. This morning, gentle breezes will blow from the northeast to southeast in the east of the island, and from the southwest to northwest in the west, generally light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort). By the afternoon, winds will shift to mostly southwesterly to northwesterly, staying light to moderate, but in some inland and western spots they may freshen to 4–5 Beaufort.

The sea will be calm to slightly ruffled in the southeast and east, while in the southwest, west, and north it will be a touch choppier, turning rougher later.

Temperatures will soar to around 45°C inland, 38°C along the southern and eastern coasts, 35°C in the west and north, and 37°C up in the higher mountains. Definitely a day for shade, hats, and you drink of choice.

Tonight, expect warm, clear skies perfect for an evening stroll. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest to northwest (3–4 Beaufort, locally up to 4). The sea will be slightly rough in the east and south, and a bit rougher in the west and north. Overnight temperatures will dip to about 27°C inland, 26°C along the coasts, and 24°C in the higher mountains; still summery and pleasant.

Friday, the Feast of the Dormition, will be another mostly sunny day, with winds picking up a little. Temperatures will ease down slightly, especially inland and in the mountains, but will still stay warmer than average.

Saturday and Sunday will keep the sunshine coming, with just a few extra clouds passing by now and then. On Saturday, temperatures will slide closer to the seasonal norm, and Sunday will bring more of the same with lovely weather for beach trips, picnics, or just relaxing outdoors.

In short: a hot start, a gentle cool-down, and plenty of sunshine for the long weekend ahead.
