Sunny skies shine on, but let’s not forget our water woes

Clear weather ahead, mild temperatures prevail, but Cyprus faces a dry season and dam challenges.

Newsroom

Good morning, sunshine lovers! Cyprus is basking in a spell of mild high pressure, which means mostly clear skies are here to stay for the next few days. However, while we enjoy the sunny reprieve, it’s worth remembering the rain we did get wasn’t much to write home about. With dam issues like the water loss at Mavrokolympos, we might face some challenges this summer, so let’s hope for a wetter spring!

For today, expect mostly clear skies, with some high clouds making occasional appearances. Gentle northeast to southeast breezes will blow at 3 to 4 Beaufort, and the sea will be slightly rough—perfect for a refreshing seaside stroll. Temperatures will climb to a pleasant 20°C inland and along the coast, while the higher mountains will feel chillier at around 10°C.

Tonight, the clear skies will stick around, with a few high clouds here and there. Winds will shift to a northwest-northeast direction at 3 Beaufort, occasionally picking up to 4 Beaufort in some spots. The sea will calm down a bit, especially in the west and north, though it may stay slightly choppy in the south and east. Temperatures will dip to a cool 6°C inland, 9°C along the coast, and a brisk 3°C in the mountains, where some local frost might appear.

Looking ahead to Wednesday and Thursday, expect more sunny skies to brighten your mood, while Friday might bring a touch of cloud cover to mix things up. Temperatures will remain steady and slightly warmer than average for this time of year.

Enjoy the sunshine, but remember to use water wisely—it’s a precious resource we can’t afford to waste!
