Tanker gas leak forces closure of Larnaca–Kofinou highway

Tanker truck triggers emergency closure as police redirect traffic through village roads

Newsroom

A liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) leak from a tanker truck on Wednesday led to the closure of a key section of the Larnaca–Kofinou highway, causing major disruptions and prompting a swift police response.

Authorities shut down the road in both directions near the Kofinou weighbridge as a precaution, while emergency crews worked to contain the leak and ensure public safety.

Police officers are currently on the scene, diverting traffic and assisting drivers with alternate routes.

Detour instructions for drivers

From Larnaca to Kofinou/Limassol: Drivers should exit near Anglisides village and follow the old Larnaca–Kofinou road. From there, they can rejoin the highway at Kofinou and continue toward Limassol.

From Limassol to Larnaca/Airport: Drivers should take the Skarinou exit onto the old Limassol–Nicosia road, pass the Kofinou Police Station, then turn right onto the old Kofinou–Larnaca road. They can re-enter the motorway near Anglisides.

Authorities have not reported any injuries, but urge the public to follow police instructions and avoid the area until further notice.

More updates will follow as the situation develops.
