A teacher at the Hala Sultan Theological School in occupied Mia Milia has been taken into custody following allegations of sexual harassment involving five students between the ages of 14 and 16.
According to reports, the suspect was arrested while allegedly attempting to leave for Turkey. The case came to light after several students informed teachers about inappropriate behaviour by the educator. School administrators then contacted parents and filed a complaint with the authorities, leading to the arrest last Tuesday.
The president of the Turkish Cypriot secondary school teachers’ union, Ahmet Karaogullari, spoke outside the school and called for a full and transparent investigation into the allegations.
He criticised the authorities responsible for supervising teachers sent from Turkey to the occupied areas under bilateral arrangements, arguing that stronger oversight measures are needed. He also stated that the union would oppose any attempt to conceal details linked to the case.
The union further called for immediate psychological and social support for the students involved.
