A teeth-whitening pen has been withdrawn from the European market after it was found to contain more hydrogen peroxide than permitted under EU cosmetics rules.
Cyprus’ Pharmaceutical Services said it was notified of the withdrawal through the European Business Alert Gateway.
The product is sold under the name “FOCUSMILE, Teeth Whitening Pen.” Consumers are advised to check their bathroom shelves and stop using it if they have already purchased one.
Hydrogen peroxide is commonly used in teeth-whitening products, but concentrations are restricted because excessive exposure can irritate or damage the gums and other tissues inside the mouth.
The product was found to breach the requirements of the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
Anyone who has the pen or spots it for sale can contact the Pharmaceutical Services at 22 608606, 22 608682 or 22 608689.
