The ''will it ever cool down?'' edition

When the heat won't quit and the clouds just can't make up their minds

Newsroom

Good morning, Cyprus! The seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass are doing their best impression of a confused tourist—wandering around, bringing the occasional surprise but mostly just trying to keep things interesting.

Today, the sun is still holding on tight, especially inland where temperatures are set to rise to a toasty 34°C. But don't get too comfortable; the west and north are already playing hard to get, with clouds flirting around, potentially leading to some isolated showers. If you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you see it), you might even get a surprise thunderstorm this afternoon, especially in the mountains and the eastern parts of the island.

Winds are starting off light but will gradually pick up, reaching up to a strong 5 Beaufort on the southern coast. So, if you're planning on a beach day, don't be surprised if your hat takes flight!

As for the sea, it's feeling a bit rough today—kind of like all of us after this endless summer heat. But don’t worry, things should calm down a bit tonight, just in time for the winds to take a breather and drop to a gentle 2 to 3 Beaufort.

Temperatures tonight will dip down to a relatively chilly 20°C inland. It might even get as low as 13°C in the higher mountains—perfect for those who have forgotten what cool air feels like.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, it seems like the clouds are sticking around just to keep us on our toes, bringing more isolated showers and thunderstorms, mostly in the mountains and inland areas.

So, no major changes on the horizon—just the same old dance between sunshine and a few rogue clouds. But by Thursday, temperatures might inch up a bit, just in case you were starting to forget what real summer feels like.

So stay cool! Or at least try to!
