If the air feels a bit chewy this morning, you can blame a low-pressure system currently sitting over northern Egypt. It’s funneling a steady stream of suspended dust our way, and according to the charts, this gritty uninvited guest isn't planning on checking out until Friday evening.
But the dust isn't the only thing on the itinerary today. The sky is looking restless, with clouds thickening up to deliver local rain and isolated thunderstorms. If you hear a sudden tapping on your window, don’t be surprised. Hail is a distinct possibility during the heavier bursts. Temperatures are retreating from yesterday's highs, settling at a uniform 19°C across the inland and coastal regions, while the mountains are back to a shivering 10°C. The wind is also being a bit unpredictable; it starts northeasterly but could decide to do a complete 180 during a thunderstorm.
Tonight, the focus shifts to the west and north. While the rest of the island might get a breather, these areas (along with the mountains) are likely to see persistent isolated showers. The wind will pick up a bit of speed along the western coast, reaching an assertive 5 Beaufort.
As we head into the weekend, the weather is doubling down on its "unstable" phase:
Friday (tomorrow): A new disturbance is arriving from the west to keep the rain and thunder going. Temperatures will hold steady for one more day, but the muddy rain risk remains high thanks to that lingering dust.
Saturday & Sunday: The thermostat is taking a bit of a tumble. We’re looking at a slight drop that will put us below the seasonal average for the rest of the weekend.

If you're heading to the very top of Troodos, keep the snow chains handy. The highest peaks are expected to see a mix of sleet and snow through Sunday.
