Newsroom

A truck driver was killed in Limassol on Thursday when his own vehicle moved back unexpectedly crushing him to death.

The victim, identified as 56-year-old Demetris Zenonos, was earning his wage for the day by helping a move in Kapsalos.

During the move, around 12:30pm, he realised there was a problem with his truck not being able to move forward and he stepped out to check.

Reports say Zenonos walked around to the back of the truck, which was parked in reverse on a steep driveway ramp.

Suddenly, while he was behind his truck, the vehicle moved back crushing him to death.

He was taken to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Two other movers were reportedly present during the incident, with media reports calling it a labour accident.

Police are investigating.
