Turkish defense sources say deployment of F-16 fighter jets to the island is also under consideration.

Turkey is expected to deploy four military aircraft to occupied northern Cyprus on Sunday, where they are scheduled to land at the airport in Tymbou, according to reports by the Turkish Cypriot newspaper Yeni Düzen.

The aircraft are expected to arrive at Tymbou airport, located in the Turkish-occupied area of the island, where security measures have reportedly been increased. The move follows recent developments in the region, including an attack targeting the British military bases in Cyprus.

According to the report, Turkey is sending the aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen security in the de facto state. Ankara describes its role as that of a “guarantor power” under the framework established following Cyprus’ independence.

No official announcement has been issued by Turkish Cypriot officials regarding the reported deployment.

Meanwhile, Turkish Defense Ministry sources cited by the report say Ankara is also examining the possibility of deploying F-16 fighter jets to Cyprus. The sources said the option is among several measures being considered as part of planning linked to security developments in the region.

The sources added that discussions are ongoing as Turkey evaluates the regional situation and potential steps related to security in the Turkish-occupied area of the island.
