25-year-old man and his 20-year-old partner were placed under eight-day detention this morning in connection with the attempted murder of a 39-year-old man in Agia Fyla on Monday night. Authorities also discovered a quantity of drugs at the house where the two suspects had been staying.
The investigation officer detailed the events leading up to the arrest, recounting how the 25-year-old shot at three individuals, including two brothers and a friend, who had arrived at his home. When the suspects noticed the trio, the 25-year-old fired at them with a pistol, though no one was initially injured. The group attempted to flee, but the 25-year-old pursued them, continuing to shoot. During the chase, the 39-year-old victim was struck, suffering a crush fracture to his tibia and fibula. He was rushed to a private hospital in Limassol where he underwent surgery.
The suspect then stole the car the victims had driven to his home and fled the scene. Police are still trying to locate the pistol used in the attack as well as the vehicle.
During proceedings, the investigating officer also referred to the discovery of illegal drugs at the home where the suspects had been staying. The 20-year-old’s defense lawyer objected to her detention, claiming she had not been staying with the 25-year-old in the days leading up to the crime. This claim will be investigated further by authorities, according to the case investigator.
Reports indicate that the parties involved had prior financial disputes linked to illegal activities, adding further complexity to the case. Investigations are ongoing, with police working to piece together more details and track down the missing weapon and car.
The suspects remain in custody as law enforcement continues to probe the circumstances surrounding both the attempted murder and the drug-related evidence discovered.
