In a shocking turn of events, former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad is reported to have been poisoned in what may have been an assassination attempt. The incident, which reportedly took place over the weekend, has raised questions about the stability of Assad’s position as his health deteriorated rapidly after feeling ill on Sunday.

According to sources from the Telegram channel General SVR, Assad began experiencing severe symptoms, including difficulty breathing, violent coughing, and stomach pain. After requesting medical assistance, his condition worsened further, leading to concerns about his survival. Though water helped momentarily ease his symptoms, his breathing didn’t return to normal, and his health continued to decline until medics arrived.

The poisoning comes at a time when Assad’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is reported to be ''chilly.''

Kremlin officials were immediately notified, and it was decided that Assad would be treated at home instead of a medical facility. By Monday, Assad’s condition was said to have stabilized, but tests revealed traces of a toxic substance in his body, indicating that he had been poisoned.

The poisoning comes at a time when Assad’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin is reported to be “chilly.” While the Kremlin previously orchestrated Assad’s evacuation to Russia after rebels took control of Syria, it appears that tensions between the two leaders have been growing. Neither Putin nor Assad fully trusts each other, and this latest incident only adds to the unease surrounding their personal and political ties.

An investigation is underway to determine how Assad was exposed to the poison, but as of now, no answers have been found. With the former Syrian dictator's health in question, the situation remains tense, especially with the ongoing instability in Syria and his fragile relationship with Russia.
