Two people, a 42-year-old foreign man and a 45-year-old Greek woman, were arrested Wednesday in Agia Paraskevi, northern Athens, for illegally trafficking companion animals. The operation, led by the Spata-Artemida Police Department, uncovered over 86 online ads for animal sales.
The suspects used a pet shop in Gerakas as a front and delivered animals using a business vehicle. Police found 27 dogs, a sphynx cat, and a falcon caged in poor conditions, along with unregistered health booklets, syringes, and mobile phones.
Three more suspects, including a veterinarian, are being sought. The animals were rescued, and fines totaling €119,000 were issued. The case has been referred to the public prosecutor.
