Cypriot investigators are preparing to take custody of two 28-year-old Georgian nationals who fled to Greece following the killing of Stavros Demosthenous. A team from the Limassol CID is scheduled to travel to Thessaloniki on Wednesday, and authorities expect the suspects to be formally handed over to Cyprus on Thursday.

Their transfer is viewed as an essential step in advancing the murder investigation. Once they land in Cyprus, the outstanding national arrest warrants against them will be executed, and they are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court on Friday so police can request a remand order.

The case already involves several other defendants who have been committed to trial before the Assize Court, with proceedings set to begin on January 29, 2026. Among them is a 51-year-old man of Greek descent, who has been linked to a stolen black Mitsubishi Colt discovered near Demosthenous’s residence. The vehicle reportedly contained jerrycans filled with flammable liquid and DNA traces attributed to him.

Also facing charges are a 30-year-old man accused of arranging the purchase of a motorcycle through a 44-year-old former footballer, as well as an inmate of the Central Prisons who allegedly directed that purchase from inside his cell. Another defendant is a 31-year-old Georgian who is both a relative of one of the two returning suspects and a longtime friend of the other.

Investigators believe the arrival of the two 28-year-olds could shed crucial light on the roles various individuals may have played in the events surrounding Demosthenous’s death and could significantly influence the next phase of the inquiry.
