Police arrested two men in Nicosia after they were spotted trying to buy bulletproof vests, raising suspicions and prompting a coordinated operation, authorities said Wednesday.
The two men, both Sudanese nationals, reportedly entered a local store asking specifically for body armor. Their request triggered concern, leading to a swift response from law enforcement.
Authorities carried out an operation later in the day and took the two into custody. They appeared before the Nicosia District Court on Wednesday, where a judge ordered them to remain in detention for eight days while investigations continue.
Police have not yet provided details about the men’s intentions or whether there is any link to broader security concerns. The incident remains under active investigation.
