Two men, ages 27 and 31, were arrested Tuesday night in Limassol on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, drug offenses, illegal possession of weapons, and assaulting police officers.
According to police, officers from the Road Accident Prevention Unit stopped a vehicle around 7:50 p.m. on the Nicosia–Limassol bypass, near the Germasogeia roundabout.
The driver, 27, and the passenger, 31, both residents of Limassol, were questioned during the stop. A preliminary drug test on the driver came back positive, police said.
Officers reportedly saw the 31-year-old passenger attempt to hide a small plastic bag by placing it in his pocket. When asked to exit the vehicle for a search, the man allegedly pushed one of the officers and tried to flee. He was quickly restrained. Police said the driver also assaulted officers during the incident.
During the scuffle, the passenger was seen throwing the plastic bag on the ground, according to authorities. Both men were arrested at the scene.
Additional officers responded, and the plastic bag was recovered. The Drug Law Enforcement Unit later confirmed it contained approximately 22 grams of cannabis.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an axe, a knife with a pointed blade, a plastic container with cannabis residue, and a grinder, also containing cannabis, police said.
The two suspects remain in custody. All items found were seized as evidence.
The investigation is ongoing by the Limassol Drug Law Enforcement Unit in coordination with the Germasogeia Police Station.
