Let’s get the important bit out of the way: it’s hot. Like, "do not touch the car seat with bare skin" hot. Temperatures are expected to hit a sizzling 40°C inland today, and the Meteorological Service has issued a Yellow Warning to keep us all on our toes or preferably in the shade. The warning is in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., which just so happens to be the exact window you should not be roasting yourself on a café terrace.
Today’s forecast:
The weather will be mostly clear, which is great news if you’re solar-powered, less so if you’re made of melty things like chocolate or human patience. Winds start off not quite sure what they’re doing, light and variable at 3 Beaufort, but by the afternoon, they’ll settle into a more committed southwesterly to northwesterly pattern. Still light to moderate, around 3 to 4 Beaufort, though the southern coast might get a little dramatic with stronger gusts up to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly rough, which sounds like the ocean equivalent of “I’m fine” when it’s clearly not.
Temperatures will climb to around 40°C inland, about 32°C on the west coast, 35°C along the rest of the coast, and a relatively civilized 29°C up in the mountains. So if you’re lucky enough to be mountain-bound today, send us a postcard and maybe a breeze.
Tonight:
Still mostly clear. But in the early morning hours, a touch of drama might arrive in the form of patchy fog and low clouds, mostly along the southern and eastern coasts. Winds will start out southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort), then mellow into light and variable around 3 Beaufort. The sea? Still doing that “calm to slightly rough” thing.
Temperatures tonight will dip to around 23°C inland, 22°C along the coast, and a cool-ish 20°C up in the mountains, just enough relief to remember what comfort feels like.
Coming up Thursday, Friday, and Saturday:
No big changes on the horizon. The weather will stay mostly clear and temperatures will continue hanging out above seasonal averages, because apparently summer didn’t get the memo about moderation.
So, was it the forecast that brought you here, or just our charming commentary on cloudlessness and coastal gusts? Either way, stay cool, stay safe, and maybe don’t test the limits of your flip-flops on scorching pavement today.
