A 78-year-old man has confessed to killing Aristidis Siamtanis, 73, whose body was found dumped in a roadside ditch in Paphos on Sunday morning.

According to police, the suspect admitted to the murder during questioning and later led investigators to key scenes in the case, including the location of the shotgun believed to have been used in the fatal shooting.

The victim was discovered around 10 a.m. on a rural road leading to the Paphos airport. An autopsy carried out by state pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou revealed multiple gunshot wounds to Siamtanis’ back and buttocks, consistent with a hunting rifle.

Investigators believe the killing stemmed from a long-standing personal dispute between the two men. Authorities have not yet revealed the nature of the disagreement.

The 78-year-old is expected to appear before court later today.

Just hours after the Paphos murder confession, another violent incident was reported, this time in the village of Pyla, where a 49-year-old man was shot outside his home shortly after midnight Monday.

Police say the victim was in the courtyard of his residence when an unknown assailant wearing a hood opened fire, possibly with a pistol. Two shots were heard before the suspect fled the scene on foot.

The victim was struck in the leg and rushed by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors found a penetrating wound in his right lower leg. He remains hospitalized for treatment.

Authorities plan to conduct further medical and forensic examinations today at the Larnaca Medical Center, as the investigation into the attempted murder unfolds.
