Hot enough to hose yourself, but will it land you in jail?

It’s illegal to hose your veranda, so what about hosing yourself? Asking for a sweaty friend.

Newsroom

Seasonal low pressure is in town today, though, frankly, it’s not doing much to cool things down. The skies will be mainly clear, which is great news for solar panel enthusiasts and terrible news for your air conditioner. Expect winds from the southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gentle enough to tousle your hair but strong enough to knock over your umbrella if you pretend it's autumn already. By afternoon, some areas may experience gustier winds (4 to 5 Beaufort), just enough to rustle your nerves while you're stuck in traffic.

Temperatures? Oh, just a casual 38°C inland, perfect weather for baking bread on your car’s dashboard. If you’re near the west coast, you’re the lucky one with a breezy 30°C. The rest of the coast will simmer at 33°C, while those seeking refuge in the mountains will enjoy a relatively chill 31°C. Don't forget to hydrate, and maybe also apologize to your plants.

The sea will be a little rough today, which is nature’s way of saying, “Not today, paddleboarder.”

Feeling tempted to turn the garden hose on yourself? We get it. But while hosing down your sweaty limbs might sound like summer bliss, just remember, using a hose to clean your veranda is now a criminal offense. So technically, drenching yourself with it might not be illegal… yet. Still, it's best to stay on the safe side, and in the shade.

Tonight, mostly clear, though there might be a touch of fog or low cloud, just enough to make you question whether your headlights are bad or the weather is moody. Winds will calm down to a sleepy 3 Beaufort, and the sea will settle into a slightly rough lullaby. Temperatures will dip to a more bearable 23°C inland and along the coast and 20°C in the mountains. That’s almost sweater weather, if you're from the equator.

Tuesday brings more of the same: sunshine, sunscreen, and the subtle sound of aircons crying in the distance. On Wednesday and Thursday, expect a rebellious cloud or two to show up during midday, especially over the mountains. Some might even try to rain, how dare they.

But don’t get too excited, the mercury isn’t budging. Temperatures will hover around the usual July averages, which is just a fancy way of saying: “Still hot.”
