Police ramped up patrols across Cyprus overnight, with coordinated operations reported in all districts, authorities said Saturday.
In Larnaca, police presence was bolstered by members of the Rapid Response Unit (MMAD) and the Aliens and Immigration Unit (YAM), following new measures announced during a recent visit by the president and the chief of police to the local department.
Patrols focused on various areas throughout the city and district, with particular attention given to the popular Finikoudes seafront. Officers conducted checks on individuals and vehicles, resulting in one arrest for illegal residence. Several drivers were cited for traffic violations, including nine for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Similar operations were carried out in other districts.
In Famagusta, police and MMAD units conducted road checks across the district. Four individuals were arrested for residing illegally in the country, and the operators of three nightclubs were cited for selling alcohol without the proper licenses.
In Limassol, officers responding to a street brawl arrested four people involved in the incident.
In Paphos, nighttime patrols led to citations against three nightclub operators for operating without valid licenses. Traffic officers in the area also issued several citations, including seven for driving under the influence.
Authorities said the coordinated operations, which are conducted daily with an emphasis on coastal and tourist areas, aim to combat criminal activity and strengthen public safety.
