UAE moves closer to permanent embassy in Israel

Approved plans allow up to 15 floors in Herzliya, housing diplomatic offices and residences for the ambassador and staff.

Israeli planning authorities have approved plans for a permanent United Arab Emirates embassy in Herzliya, allowing a building of up to 15 floors, six years after the countries established diplomatic relations under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords.

The complex is planned for Herzliya Pituah’s business district, north of Tel Aviv, and would house embassy offices alongside residences for the Emirati ambassador and diplomatic staff.

The plans allow up to 15,000 square meters of above-ground floor space on a roughly 2,500-square-meter plot at 9 Sapir Street. Staff and ambassador accommodation would occupy the upper floors, accounting for up to 20% of the permitted space.

The project would give the UAE a purpose-built home for its diplomatic mission, replacing temporary premises. The latest approval, reported Oct. 13, follows an earlier planning stage in October 2025. The reports do not give a construction start date or an opening timetable.

Beyond the building’s size, the significance lies in its permanence. The project is advancing at a time when regional tensions are affecting relations between Israel and the UAE, making it a notable investment in their diplomatic presence.

Herzliya Mayor Yariv Fisher has welcomed the embassy project. The municipality says its location near technology companies and international businesses could help attract further diplomatic missions and business activity to the area.
