UN's efforts fail to break Cyprus impasse

Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar, the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Cyprus, commenced her visit to Cyprus on Monday morning with a meeting with Colin Stewart, Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.

According to sources from the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Ms. Holguin is scheduled for extensive discussions on Monday with Mr. Stewart and the team of Good Offices. Her discussions with Mr. Stewart will focus on the current situation on the island.

In the afternoon, she will engage in consultations with the Good Offices team, preparing for meetings scheduled for Tuesday.

Ms. Holguin is expected to hold separate meetings on Tuesday with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

She arrived in Cyprus on Sunday night for a ten-day visit, her first since her appointment by the UN Secretary-General.
