United Nations Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo is expected to visit Cyprus soon, following UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s approval of plans to convene an expanded meeting on Cyprus. All parties involved have agreed to the idea, sources say.
According to Cypriot government sources, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides briefly spoke with Guterres at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku. During their discussion, Guterres confirmed that preparations for the expanded Cyprus meeting are moving forward as planned, in line with the informal dinner discussions held on October 15. He also noted that he has secured agreement from all sides to proceed.
Sources added that DiCarlo’s upcoming visit aims to help coordinate and lay the groundwork for the meeting, as Guterres hopes to see tangible outcomes from this renewed diplomatic effort.
