UN peacekeepers confirmed that calm has been maintained in the Avlona area following a fresh incident reported inside the UN-controlled buffer zone earlier today.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, UNFICYP spokesperson Aleem Siddique said the incident is being formally examined by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force. He noted that peacekeepers were deployed to the site immediately after the report was received in order to assess the situation on the ground.

According to Mr. Siddique, there has been no escalation. UN personnel remain in communication with both sides as part of ongoing efforts to prevent any rise in tension.

Media reports indicate that the incident involved Turkish tractors entering the buffer zone in Avlona on Monday morning and carrying out agricultural work on land owned by a Greek Cypriot. The area concerned falls under United Nations jurisdiction, adding to the sensitivity of the development.
