USA: Florida couple says fertility clinic mistake left them raising wrong baby

Parents call for urgent testing as mix-up raises fear for other families

A Florida couple is facing every parent’s nightmare: raising a child who isn’t biologically theirs. Tiffany Score and Steven Mills say an Orlando fertility clinic accidentally implanted someone else’s embryo in Score’s uterus last year.

The mix-up became obvious at birth in December 2025. “The baby looked nothing like us,” the couple’s lawyer said, and genetic tests later confirmed the shocking truth: the child had no biological connection to either parent.

Even with the heartbreak and confusion, the couple has grown attached to the baby. They say they are ready to raise her, but they also feel it’s their moral duty to reunite her with her real parents if they come forward. “They love this child, but someone could show up at any time to claim her,” the lawyer said.

The lawsuit, filed in January, is asking the clinic to alert all patients, run genetic tests, and find out if other families were affected. IVF Life, the clinic involved, said it is cooperating with the investigation to figure out how the error happened.

Experts say such mistakes are extremely rare, but this case highlights the risks couples face when using fertility clinics, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with trusting someone else with the most personal parts of your life.
