A foreign national, who was hospitalized last week after falling victim of a knife attack, has been arrested while his attacker, a local male, had previously been remanded in custody.

The 26-year-old man, described as Indian national, was injured on November 13 late at night at a village in Nicosia district. He was initially taken to the Emergency Room where he underwent surgery while his attacker, a 28-year-old Greek Cypriot was detained in connection with the case.

Sources tell Knews that attempted murder charges may not hold up based on the ongoing investigation so far

But police on Wednesday arrested the victim following accusations leveled against him during the investigation, charging him with attempted aggravated assault and knife possession.

Last week, the 28-year-old man was remanded for eight days in connection with attempted murder. But sources told Knews that attempted murder charges may end up not holding up based on the ongoing investigation so far.

The expiration of the eight-day remand was set to expire on Thursday for the Greek Cypriot and a judge was to decide whether to release him, while the Indian man was expected to be remanded in custody while the investigation is pending.

CID Nicosia is jointly investigating the case with the Pera Chorio police station.
