Weather forecast: High pressure holds through Saturday before Sunday storms ruin your weekend

Afternoon clouds threaten the mountains today while temperatures stick stubbornly around 30°C.

Newsroom

Right, weak high pressure is currently affecting the area. Fantastic. Just hanging around like an awkward uncle at a christening. Though don't get used to it, because weak low pressure is shuffling in on Sunday to make sure nobody gets too comfortable.

Today is mostly clear overall, but a few clouds are going to build up after midday just to give the sky a bit of texture. Winds start out northwest to northeast at a light-to-moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort, shifting southwest to northwest out in the southwest later on at up to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to slightly choppy, which is fine, because who's swimming on a Friday anyway?

Here is how today's thermal misery breaks down:

Inland plains, southern, and eastern coasts: Sitting right at 30°C. Warm, sticky, and completely uncalled for.

Remaining coastal areas: Hovering around 29°C. Slightly better, but still thoroughly annoying.

Higher mountains: Reaching 20°C, which is actually quite nice until you remember you have to drive back down into the heat.

Tonight stays mainly clear, thankfully. Winds will blow from the northwest to northeast at a gentle 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea stays calm to slightly choppy.

Saturday (tomorrow): Mostly clear again, though a few extra clouds will creep in during the afternoon just to be annoying.

Sunday and Monday: It starts out clear, but don't be fooled. Afternoon clouds are going to build up and bring isolated showers or even a full-on thunderstorm, mainly in the mountains and inland. Excellent. Can't wait.

Temperatures won't change much through Sunday, sticking right around the seasonal average, before dropping slightly on Monday to cap off a lovely week. Brilliant.
