Windy skies and wandering showers set the tone for Holy Wednesday

Blustery conditions and the odd shower bring a changeable mood across the island.

Newsroom

It’s Holy Wednesday, and the atmosphere seems to have its own plans for a bit of pre-Easter theatrics. A weak low-pressure system has wandered into the neighborhood, bringing with it an unsettled mood. Think of it as the weather equivalent of a slightly grumpy guest who may or may not stay for dinner.

Today starts off fairly innocent, but by midday the clouds begin gathering like gossiping relatives, especially toward the east where a passing shower may make a brief appearance. Winds will be lively, blowing in from the southwest to west at a confident 4 to 5 Beaufort, occasionally flexing their muscles along the southern coast at up to 6 Beaufort. The sea, not to be outdone, will be a bit rough, so perhaps admire it from a safe distance.

Temperatures will play it cool: around 23°C inland (pleasant), about 21°C along most coasts (agreeable), dipping to 19°C on the west coast (a touch moody), and a brisk 12°C in the mountains (bring a jacket, and maybe a hug).

Tonight, clouds linger over the western half of the island, where a shy shower might quietly pass by. Winds remain in their breezy mood, and the sea keeps its restless edge.

Looking ahead

Holy Thursday arrives with a mix of moods. Starting with scattered showers or even a cheeky thunderstorm. By afternoon, the weather gets more expressive, especially over the mountains, inland areas, and the southeast. Come evening, the spotlight shifts to the southwest, west, and north, where isolated showers or storms may take a bow.

Good Friday keeps things partly cloudy, with a chance of morning showers or thunderstorms mainly in the western half; nothing too dramatic, just enough to keep you guessing.

Holy Saturday leans toward a more overcast feel, with the possibility of isolated rain. Think of it as the sky gently clearing its throat before Easter Sunday.

Temperatures throughout will stay close to their seasonal norms. No surprises there, just steady, familiar springtime comfort.
