If you’re heading out for Holy Tuesday errands, you’ll notice the sky is playing a bit of a cat-and-mouse game. We’re currently caught in an unstable air mass, which means that while your morning might start with a clear blue sky vibe, the clouds are already gathering for their afternoon appearance. Today is dedicated to the Parable of the Ten Virgins and the hymn of Kassiani, themes of preparation and reflection that feel particularly fitting when you're trying to figure out if it's safe to leave your laundry on the line.
Temperatures are climbing to a comfortable 22°C inland, around 21°C on the eastern coasts, and a cooler 11°C if you’re up in the higher villages. The midday transition will bring local showers and isolated thunderstorms inland and in the mountains, potentially featuring some local hail. It's the kind of weather that keeps you on your toes but doesn't completely derail your plans.
The wind is keeping a low profile at 3 Beaufort this morning but will pick up to a more moderate 4 Beaufort by the afternoon. The sea is following suit, staying relatively calm on the east coast but getting a bit restless on windward shores.
Tonight, the sky clears up for most of the island, though the western half will stay partly cloudy with a light 3 Beaufort breeze. As we move through the traditions of the Great Week, the outlook remains varied.
Holy Wednesday: The day for the Sacrament of Holy Unction (the holy oil) looks mostly clear, though the western half of the island might see some extra cloud cover. If you’re in the southeast or the mountains, keep an eye out for a stray afternoon shower, but generally, it’s a good day for a slight temperature rise and some quiet reflection.
Holy Thursday: This is the big day for dyeing red eggs and baking flaounes, and the weather is planning to match the heat of the ovens. Expect coastal showers in the morning and evening, with midday thunderstorms likely to rumble across the mountains and inland. It’s a classic 'stay inside and bake' forecast while the rain handles the garden.
Good Friday: As the island prepares for the solemn Epitaphios processions, we’ll see periods of clear sky alternating with cloudiness. Temperatures will take a slight dip, settling back into those seasonal averages that keep the evening candlelit walks feeling crisp but manageable.
