Ukrainian visitor struck by car in Larnaca as she was trying to use a crosswalk

A foreign visitor is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle as she was trying to cross the street near Larnaca's Aliki Salt Lake.

According to reports, a 39-year-old woman from Ukraine was trying to cross the street on Artemidos Avenue in Larnaca on Sunday afternoon when she was hit by a car. The incident took place across from Aliki Salt Lake near the town's airport.

Knews understands the pedestrian was attempting to use a crosswalk equipped with pedestrian signals at a traffic light intersection

Police said a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old female driver struck the pedestrian around 4:40pm under circumstances still pending an investigation.

The woman was rushed to the Emergency Room at Larnaca General Hospital where doctors on duty said she had suffered a head trauma and internal bleeding. She was later transported to Nicosia General where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Knews understands the pedestrian was attempting to use a crosswalk equipped with pedestrian signals at the intersection of Tasos Mitsopoulos and Artemidos avenues.

Police said the visitor was in critical condition while the driver was not harmed in the incident. There was no information regarding any arrests following the incident.
