Woman dies in brutal collision in Limassol

Police ask for any witnesses to come forward in fatal accident, one dead, two in critical condition

Police are searching for witnesses in a fatal accident in Limassol, where a senior citizen lost her life in a brutal collision and two women remain in critical condition.

According to police, two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision in Limassol on Friday, where a 74-year-old woman was killed, and three others were injured two of whom in critical condition.

The accident took place around 12:05pm near Vouni on the main road between Ayios Amvrosios and Pera Pedi, where the car driven by the 74-year-old driver collided with another car driven by a 27-year-old woman, with a 28-year-old male front passenger and another 27-year-old woman in the back seat.

Police said the two cars were moving in opposite directions when they slammed into each other under circumstances that are still pending investigation.

The 27-year-old driver suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in the brain and was rushed straight into the Intensive Care Unit at Nicosia General Hospital, along with the other female passenger who also suffered internal bleeding. Doctors said the condition of the two women remained critical, while the male passenger suffered a broken arm and was said to be out of danger.

All four persons involved in the accident had to be removed from the wreckage with the help of fire fighters, while it was understood that the senior citizen died at the scene.

Police unsure about seat belts

Limassol traffic police issued a formal request, asking members of the public who may know anything about the incident to contact authorities.

The incident is still at a preliminarily stage in the investigation while it was not clarified whether police had ascertained with confidence if seat belts were in use or not during the impact.
