Yellow warning for showers and thunderstorms

The warning will be in force from 3 am on Wednesday morning until 3 pm in the afternoon of the same day

The Meteorological Service had issued a yellow warning for rain and storms on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the announcement, rains and local storms are expected to affect the area. Rainfall intensity is expected to vary between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour.

The yellow warning will be in effect from 3 am on Wednesday until 3 pm on the same day.

The weather forecast

A barometric low in the Aegean is moving east and is expected to have an impact on the region.

In the evening, the weather will remain mostly cloudy, with isolated showers and the possibility of a thunderstorm, but showers and localized thunderstorms are expected to develop gradually, first in the west and then in the rest of the areas. The effects are likely to be prolonged or even intense locally. It is possible that sleet or snow will fall on Troodos' highest peaks. Winds will be mostly from the southeast to the southwest, light to moderate, and measuring 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be a little rough. The temperature will fall to around 11 degrees in the interior, 15 degrees on the coasts, and 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tomorrow's weather will be mostly cloudy at first, with showers and local thunderstorms possible, with the effects likely to be prolonged or even severe. It is possible that sleet or snow will fall on Troodos' highest peaks. The system moves eastward in the afternoon, and the effects gradually fade. Winds will be mostly from the southeast to the southwest, light to moderate (3 to 4 Beaufort), and transient to windward to strong (4 to 5 Beaufort). The sea will be rough and transient locally on the windward coast, ranging from rough to rough. Temperatures will rise to around 19 degrees inland and along the coasts, and around 10 degrees higher in the mountains.
