Zeta Emilianidou suffers brain aneurysm (update)

The Minister of Labor and Social Welfare was flown to Athens last night for emergency surgery

Cyprus Labour Minister Zeta Emilianides was put in an induced coma following surgery she underwent in Athens. The Minister suffered a brain aneurysm on Sunday and was immediately transported to the Ygeia Medical Center in Athens.

She was immediately placed in the ICU and underwent surgery. A medical report says that the aneurysm was blocked via a specialized method and the Minister is now in an induced coma.

She is in critical condition and an assessment will follow in the next few days.

The announcement from the Presidential Office as follows:

With regret, I am obliged to inform you that the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, Mrs. Zeta Emilianidou, suffered a brain aneurysm last night.

She was initially admitted to a private hospital in Nicosia, but due to the seriousness of her condition, she was transferred to a hospital in Athens where she is currently undergoing surgery.

The President of the Republic was informed immediately about the state of her health and sent his warmest wishes for a speedy recovery.

After this unpleasant development, today's press conference on "Welfare State - Society without Exclusions" in which Mrs. Emilianidou would have participated, as well as tomorrow's scheduled events in the Province of Larnaca have been postponed.

President Anastasiades: "I'm sure she will persevere"

In a post on Twitter, the President addressed the Minister saying, "To the Minister of Labor, to my dear Zeta, who is currently undergoing surgery, I wish you a speedy recovery."
