Cyprus emerges as tech hub at DAAS-AI summit

Newsroom

Twenty-two startups hailing from Cyprus, Great Britain, Israel, and Greece are vying for the prestigious 10,000 euro prize at the 2023 Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit.

This year, the Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit has introduced the 'Alpha Stage' Innovation Platform, inviting startups and innovation teams to participate in the DAAS-AI (Digital Agenda Alpha Stage - Artificial Intelligence) competition. The primary goal of DAAS-AI is to encourage teams from Cyprus and its neighboring regions to present their groundbreaking research projects, with a strong focus on practical applications.

DAAS-AI has extended invitations to startups and research teams actively engaged in the field of artificial intelligence, particularly those with innovative ideas targeting the tourism, media, or education sectors. These participants should be at a stage where they are ready to transition their work from the laboratory to the market, attracting potential investors and venture capitalists with the goal of moving closer to commercialization.

A panel of jurors will pre-select four proposals, and the ultimate winner, determined through presentations during the Alpha Stage event, will be awarded a 10,000 euro prize courtesy of the Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit.

The evaluation panel includes:

- KYRIAKOS KOKKINOS, Head of the committee
- DEMETRIOS ZOPPOS, CO-FOUNDER & PARTNER at 33East
- ITAI GREEN, FOUNDER AND CEO OF INNOVATE ISRAEL
- KATERINA PRAMATARI, FOUNDING PARTNER AT UNI.FUND
- MELINA MAI, TECHNOLOGY INVESTMENT ASSOCIATE AT BIG PI VENTURES
- YIANNIS EFTYCHIOU, CO-FOUNDER & PARTNER at 33East

The selection of teams that will compete in the Alpha Stage, taking place on October 17th at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, will be finalized by September 30th. The winning team not only secures the 10,000 euro prize from the Digital Agenda Cyprus Summit but also has the opportunity to attract potential funding from interested investors in attendance.

Alpha Stage also introduces 'Techisland,' a non-profit organization founded in 2021 with the mission of positioning Cyprus as an attractive hub for tech talent. Its membership comprises companies active in the technology sector within Cyprus and enjoys support from Cyprus Seeds and Invest Cyprus.
