Greek companies eye Cypriot market for new business opportunities

Continued interest in Cyprus highlights the growing potential for cross-border cooperation and strategic partnerships between Greece and Cyprus businesses.

Newsroom

Greek businesses are continuing to make their mark on Cyprus, with a growing number of companies looking to expand and partner with Cypriot firms. The Cyprus-Greece Business Forum, organized by the Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) and the Federation of Enterprises and Industries (SEV) from Greece, took place on Wednesday March 12, bringing together over 150 business meetings between companies from both countries.

According to Kathimerini's Dorita Yiannakou, the event, which is expected to foster new trade and investment partnerships, featured 21 Greek companies from sectors like food, pharmaceuticals, technology, energy, and shipping. These companies are keen to explore opportunities for growth in Cyprus, building on the long history of successful cooperation in fields like tourism, services, and technology.

New Partnerships on the Horizon

The forum is a clear sign that the relationship between Greek and Cypriot businesses is stronger than ever. More than 60 Cypriot companies also participated, including well-known names like Laiko Cosmos Trading, Melco Resorts, Alpha Mega, and many more from sectors like financial services, hotels, and construction. These companies did not attend for show—they’re actively meeting with Greek businesses to create new collaborations and partnerships that could lead to exciting opportunities for both markets.

"Cypriot and Greek companies share similar values and business cultures, making it easier for us to collaborate and address challenges together," said a representative from the OEB. With so many business meetings taking place during the forum, the goal was to boost trade relations and tap into new business prospects that would benefit both nations.

Greek Interest in Cyprus Soars

The growing presence of Greek companies in Cyprus is no surprise. Over 1,500 companies of Greek interests are already operating in Cyprus, showing the strong appetite for business growth here. Whether it’s through expansions, mergers, or acquisitions, Greek businesses are diving into sectors like food, retail, energy, and even financial services. Their continued interest is creating a wealth of opportunities for Cypriot companies to collaborate and grow together.

Economic Diplomacy at Work

With the Cyprus government working to make the island an even more attractive place for foreign investment, the role of business forums like this is crucial. The Ministry of Energy, Trade, and Industry, along with other government agencies, are focused on boosting Cyprus’ economic diplomacy, supporting initiatives that foster cross-border partnerships, and ensuring that both Cyprus and Greece can capitalize on new opportunities.

For Cypriot companies, this forum offers the chance to work with trusted partners from across the Aegean, while Greek companies are finding fertile ground for expansion in Cyprus. Both sides are focused on creating a favorable business environment that will continue to bring economic growth and new opportunities for years to come.
