The Pafos Regional Board of Tourism (ETAP) has unveiled a new smart application that brings the myth of the Goddess Aphrodite to life using advanced audio-visual media. ETAP Director Nasos Hadjigeorgiou announced the launch at a press conference on Tuesday, describing the app as highly user-friendly and comprehensive, covering both well-known and lesser-known aspects of Aphrodite's story.
The app features augmented reality (AR) options for four of the seven significant sites associated with Aphrodite, including her birthplace at Petra tou Romiou in Palaipafos, the Sacred Gardens of Aphrodite in Geroskipou, and the Baths of Aphrodite. Hadjigeorgiou highlighted that users can experience scenes from the goddess's life in real-time environments through their smart devices. For instance, visitors can witness Aphrodite emerging from the waves at Petra tou Romiou or see her bathing with Adonis at the Baths of Aphrodite.
ETAP President Kyriakos Droushiotis added that the application supports multiple languages—Greek, English, French, German, and Russian—and offers audio tours, rich video content, and interactive features. Users can even take photos with a virtual representation of the Goddess.
The app provides extensive information about Aphrodite's connection to Pafos, her various names, attributes, and the plants and shells linked to her mythology. It also includes details about nature trails related to the goddess.
