A total of 6.6 million passengers traveled through Cyprus' airports from January to July this year while according to Hermes Airports, passenger traffic in August is expected to surpass 1.5 million people.
According to information reported by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), sourced from Hermes Airports, in June 2023, a total of 1.3 million passengers (arrivals and departures) passed through Larnaka and Paphos airports, recording a 105% increase compared to the same period in 2022. Specifically, over 895,000 passengers used Larnaka Airport, while more than 404,000 traveled through Paphos Airport.
Around 1.5 million passengers in July traveled through both airports, marking a 1% rise compared to July 2022. More than one million passengers traveled via Larnaka, while over 430,000 passed through Paphos.
August, traditionally the busiest month for arrivals and departures, is expected to see over 1.5 million passengers, maintaining similar levels to August 2022.
In terms of connectivity, Cyprus is being served by 55 airlines this August, operating 156 routes to 38 countries.
Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing, and Communications at Hermes Airports, stated in a written statement that despite the year's challenging start due to various external factors impacting airlines, efforts to improve the situation have been successful, as evidenced by the strong performance of Cyprus' airports.
She highlighted that from January to July, Cyprus' airports experienced the highest passenger traffic on record, with 6.6 million passengers traveling through Larnaka and Paphos. Kouroupi expressed hope that this positive trend will continue, making 2024 a landmark year for Cyprus tourism.
