Unemployment in Cyprus continued to edge down in January, offering another small but steady sign that the job market is holding up.
According to the Statistical Service, the number of registered unemployed fell by 3.8%, or 497 people, compared to January last year. By the end of January 2026, 12,650 people were officially registered as unemployed at district labor offices.
When seasonal factors are taken into account, giving a clearer picture of the overall trend, the number of unemployed stood at 9,848, slightly lower than the 9,863 recorded in December.
The drop is largely linked to stronger employment in construction, hotels and restaurants, trade, and manufacturing, as well as fewer new people entering the labor market.
While the numbers don’t point to a dramatic shift, they do suggest that key sectors of the economy continue to absorb workers, keeping unemployment on a gradual downward path.
